1996 ranger xlt 4.0 4x4. Has about 160k miles on it. Recently picked it up from an old couple at work for $500. Runs pretty decent but I've got the p1443 code. Noticed my filler neck was completely separated from the tank, figured that'd fix it but nope. I idle at 1000-1100 rpm. I cleaned the IAC now i have a very loud hum/vacuum cleaner sound coming from the intake. Im guessing i messed it up? I also took the vac line off the top of the rusty, crusty EGR valve... shouldnt that make the motor change? There wasnt any change. I know about the purge valve/solenoid but havent changed them yet.

Any ideas where to start?

 

I unplugged the IAC and the humming stopped and rpm's dropped down to about 500 rpm. Is that good?

 

I just fixed a p0443 code on mine. Check the evap system for leaks, check the resistance for the purge solenoid. Should be 38 ohms. This code is for the evap system. This should help. https://www.troublecodes.net/p1codes/p1443/
