Fuel pressure issue

My mom is having an issue with her 92 Ranger w/ 4.0. She was driving it and came to a stop and she said the engine just stalled. She was able to get back home but had to give it partial throttle at lights to keep it running.

I checked for codes with the key on engine off and was getting codes related to the MAF ( I think it was 157 and 158 ). But I also read threads that said that the engine should still be able to run with the MAF disconnected but the truck wouldn't it would either stall immediately or after sitting for a while it would run for a few mins then eventually start having idle issues and would stall.

I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the valve on the fuel rail and with the engine running at idle was getting about 29psi. I disconnected the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator and it shot up to almost 40psi,but it eventually stalled. I'd like to get this repaired hopefully myself but just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions. Also I noticed the vacuum line of the FPR had what appears to be fuel in it. So I was going to replace the FPR, but wondering if this would be the issue or just one of many other issues.

If the regulator vacuum line has fuel, replace it and then troubleshoot the symptoms that remain afterward.

yeah I put a vacuum cap too over the FPR and it was wet on the inside, with the truck off, If I turn the key to the on position (but not started) it would jump to almost 30, but then would pretty much just fall to 0psi. I ordered a new FPR so waiting on that to show up hopefully that's all it is.
