Ford Ranger 4l v6 problem.

The engine has been running graciously with not a single problem.

This morning I was starting the engine. It gave a bang sound from engine and failed to start. Then it won't start altogether.

What could be problems

Moses

Welcome to the forum

Pretty hard to diagnose with limited info

Can you still operate the starter motor, does the engine spin?

Check battery and its cables

Then test starter motor

Starter, battery, belts are ok. Engine is also spinning well. I suspect fuel starvation as air seems ok. Will also air flow control switches/controls.

Spray some Starting fluid(ether), or gasoline, into the intake and see if it starts

If so then yes, there is no fuel coming in from fuel injectors
Could be fuel pump has failed, but that shouldn't make any noise when it fails

When you turn on the key you should HEAR the fuel pump in the gas tank run for 2 seconds, but only for 2 seconds, its a HUM you can hear in the cab
Turn key on and off as much as needed to determine if you HEAR the pump or do not HEAR the pump running

You can download your owners manual from here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

There is a map for engine bay fuse box in the manual, look at the Fuel pump fuse and the fuel pump relay, pull both out and see if they look OK

It's the "bang" that confuses me. Sometimes if you hear an audible bang, the timing chain has jumped. Does the engine spin faster than normal when trying to start? Are you able to check to see if it threw a trouble code?

I checked fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel pump. I went to check the breather pipes. And discover a small joining piece just behind the top manifold had fallen off. It must have come off due rough dirt road. Putting it back, the engine works very nice as always.

I must say I had another Ford Ranger XLE 4l for 14 years and it never had an engine problem.
