So I finally bought my 1994 rolled over ranger for a donor engine for my 2001 Mazda b3000. They both have the 3.0, I know what I need to swap over kinda. Can I use the 1994 block and heads and bolt all my stuff from the 2001 onto it when I bolt it in? What gasket kit should I buy? Should I get it for 1994 3.0 or the 2001 3.0? Is the 2 wheel drive tranny in the 94 the same as the 4x4 tranny in the 01? Thank you again, pictures of the trucks here. 94 ranger 01 Mazda
Yes, pull off all the parts from 1994 3.0l and bolt the 2001 parts to it
Check the freeze plugs(core plugs) on the 1994 block and heads, if even a little rust is seen replace them, they are cheap
Use a 2001 gasket set
If automatics then no, not the same transmissions, 1994 has A4LD, 2001 a 5R44E, A4LD is worth while to sell if you think it works
If manual then both are M5OD-R1 models but 4x4 trans has shorter output shaft, so not swappable as is, but you could swap tail shafts and housings with a little work
Check oil pans, and oil pumps, they may be different from 2WD to 4x4
I would put in a new oil pump, not an expensive part but an important one, lol
Also a new timing cover gasket, since you have to change covers anyway, these gaskets leaked on the 3.0ls, this should be done with oil pan off
No, you don't need to swap heads as long as the 3.0l engine came from a Ranger or Mazda B3000, if it comes from a Ford car then you do need to change the head gaskets for correct coolant flow, but still use the same heads
