1992 2wd transmission not driving
1992 2wd transmission not driving
Hi, I'm New to the forum I bought a 1992 ranger 3.0 . The truck will go into reverse and drive when the engine is cold. Once the truck warms up it will not move at all. I dont know what is going on could it be the solenoid ?
Welcome to the forum
You have an A4LD automatic in a 1992 Ranger
Automatics have alot of interdependent parts, so without testing there is no way to diagnose a specific issue
A leaking seal or gasket in the valve body could cause what you describe as your symptom, probably not a solenoid issue
If a solenoid fails then a code will be set IDing which of the 2 solenoids has failed, A4LD only has 2 solenoids, and neither should cause what you describe
Is the CEL(check engine light) on?
A transmission shop can test the pressure at the test ports on the side of the transmission, that can narrow down possible problems
You could drain the fluid and have a look for debris in the fluid and pan
Debris in the pan/fluid means the rotating parts, in the main body of transmission, have a problem, which means a full rebuild will be needed
If no debris is found and trans fluid is not burned, then replacing the valve body might be worth a try, even if it doesn't work you would still need the new valve body for the full rebuild, so not a waste of money
Long shot would be failing torque converter, but you would notice other symptoms that you didn't mention
The A4LD that you have was only used from 1991-1994 on the 3.0l Rangers, no other A4LD will bolt to the 3.0l engine, it had a unique bell housing pattern, and it also needs to be 2WD, 4x4 trans can not be used or converted
So used trans may be hard to find
