P0306 and low compression
P0306 and low compression
Looking for some help please
2001 ford ranger 3.0 by
200k miles
Dry compression test was low: 90psi
wet test: 120psi
I just replaced all pistons and rings
New lifters and rods
new gaskets
new oil
new coolant
And some other new stuff but I dont think its relevant to my problem
Check engine light only blinks if at idle for a while
seems to run fine other than at idle
there is a ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from the lifter/valve area for cylinder 6, but only happens when at operating temperature and at idle. Goes away when I accelerate in the slightest.
I know the dry and wet test should tell me the rings are the problem but I literally just installed them 3 weeks ago and truck ran great for 2 weeks till now I have this misfire code again. It's just hard for me to believe my rings could go bad this quickly.

Update: was just a faulty gasket
Just started tearing down and saw the rubber gasket between bottom intake manifold and motor was completely torn in half. Knew since I just replaced about everything that I didnt have to go further. Definitely grateful that was all
Well.. I have to ask:
1: New pistons and rings... so I assume you had cylinders reworked?
2: Did you inspect the rockers for wear when replacing the pushrods and lifters?
3: Any work done to the heads other than just cleaned up?
4: What trouble code? Even if CEL doesn't stay lit, there may be a stored code.
Please mention "other new stuff" because it actually could be relevant. It gives a better picture of what you got going on.
