Leaking Lower Intake Gasket
Leaking Lower Intake Gasket
So my lower intake gasket on my 2003 3.0 finally decided it wanted to leak. I noticed a drip for about 3 weeks and then magically it stopped. My gas mileage seems to be going down though without any driving changes. Normally I get about 16 mpg and now I’m down to about 14. My question is can the gasket cause a vacuum leak? I haven’t noticed any acceleration difference or noises...no noticeable misfire. I don’t really want to replace the gasket because I’m getting ready to sell it and pulling apart the whole motor doesn’t sound too fun.
I assume the drip you are referring to is antifreeze. I hope you have been checking the coolant level. Drips that magically stop are usually due to the lack of fluid. Anyway, a bad intake gasket can cause a vacuum leak. They can also leak antifreeze to the outside..or inside. If it leaks to inside, it can ruin the oil which can ruin the engine.
