Brand New Tempo (Mostly trans discussion)
Brand New Tempo (Mostly trans discussion)
So, a couple of weeks ago I managed to snag a used ford Tempo. Total granny car. 1992 GL. Under 90k miles. Runs great. The transmission is a little temperamental, but it shifts every time. It's an automatic by the way. I'm new to the 2.3 Lima engines and it's really the first engine I've ever gotten into as far as car mechanics is concerned. I'm mostly an electronics guy. What I really want to know is, what's basic maintenance like for this little doggy? Oil changes, coolant, etc... What are some good places for aftermarket parts? And what are my alternatives concerning transmission swaps and replacements? Ebay has a bunch of used, higher mile transmissions for sale for a couple hundred $$ American. And what are your all's opinions on the transmission kits and rebuild ability of this car. It seems like a really good vehicle for a starter mechanic like myself, and the parts are decently priced; from what I can tell. Hopefully I can semi restore it, without too many issues. I'm really liking the inline 4 setup.
