Any other replacements while swapping engine out?
Any other replacements while swapping engine out?
Hey all,
Looks like I’ll need to replace the engine on my 2.3l 2010 xl. I wanted to see if I should consider replacing anything else while the engine is being swapped out. I’d rather go ahead and replace the hard to reach items now than having to pay more in labor in the future. It currently has about 178k miles. Thank you.

If you are replacing the engine, its a good time to get at the hoses on the back of the engine. I'd honestly replace any hose you can see, as anything over 10 years is subject to failure.
If you dont replace anything else, replace the large 3 hose crossover coolant hose assembly. It's about impossible to swap this part while both the engine and trans are in the truck. I would also change the gaskets in the back, for the EGR and coolant neck.

Haven't done an engine on my Ranger but when I had the engine out of my Honda I did a rear main seal and all the gaskets/hoses while it was out. If you have an automatic now is a good time for a pilot bearing, or with a manual you can do clutch/flywheel/RMS like I did. It's also a good time for stuff on the chassis itself now that there's more space. Steering rack, painting the bay, refinishing the little brackets that are probably rusted on the firewall etc.
