2003 ranger 2.3/mazda b2300 - vapor canister vent solenoid & wiring connector issue

hi all!

i'm inquiring about my 2003 mazda b2300's vapor canister vent solenoid & wiring connector. (exact same as ford ranger 2.3). i had a check engine light on, ran the truck thru emissions anyway, so i wouldn't get fined; and they told me it would have passed were it not for the light - it's running clean. and it drives out fine.

anyway, i finally got around to replacing the vapor cannister vent solenoid, and the connector was also shot. i rewired the connector, got continuity, put everything back together, and the check engine light still came on, after i reset it by disconnecting the battery. the check engine light stayed off until the next time the truck was started.

what i'm wondering is, if i reversed polarity on the two wires at the connector, would this cause this? (i may have, i'm not actually sure - my bad; i know) i don't know if polarity is an issue w/this connector.

and, i'd previously replaced the Intake Manifold Runner Solenoid, as this was indicated by the error code the first time the check engine light came on - that didn't help.

i really thought replacing the vapor canister vent solenoid & wiring connector would fix it, because both were definitely trashed

thanks for your help,

doug s.
