Ford ranger fuel tank
Ford ranger fuel tank
Hey, I have a leak at the top of my fuel tank and I need a new fuel tank to replace the part I need, it’s a 1997 ford ranger 4.0 v6. I can’t find a replacement anywhere as they don’t sell them anymore. Does anyone know where I can find one?
As you have found out there are no new replacements, so you will need to repair yours
These plastic tanks are made by "welding" the two halves together, so can be repaired "Plastic Welding
Google: Plastic welding gas tank
If repair is not an option then a Wrecking yard might have one, try: https://www.car-part.com/
There are 2 sizes, 17gal(16.5) or 20gal(19.5)
Extended cab used 20gal(also Long Bed Ranger)
Regular cab 17gal

I called a couple wrecking yards, they’re saying they can’t sell gas tanks because it’s considered illegal now… I found one a bit away so I’m looking at trying to get it shipped over. If not I’ll try out the plastic welding you were talking about, thanks
Haven't read about the "illegal" thing before, I know that Cat converters can't be re-sold but can't see how gas tanks would be an environmental issue if they are empty
Some wrecking yards have to drain the fuel before a vehicle can be put "out in the yard" so they will just drill a hole in the bottom of the gas tank, so tank is ruined, but not "illegal" to sell, lol
So if they say its "illegal to sell a gas tank" that's just easier than saying "we ruin all the gas tanks that come in", lol

yeah that’s definitely possible, I just went to one and looked all of the gas tanks are taken off so I have no clue.
