Woke up early and told myself to do the plugs today. So i got my tools out and opened up the hood. Looked at the left side and decided to do the passenger side first. started with the number back one, not bad. middle and front were easier. Went on to do the drivers side and started on the front one, hard. middle one was easier, back one was a b*tch. Started up the truck and seems to run better. couple of things i noticed was the 01 used awsf32p and the new ones have a point on it.

I did put some anti seize on the threads since the guy put them in my bag for 99 cents.

Next is to get the transmission flushed and injectors cleaned.

 

How many miles are on your Ranger? This the first plug change for your Ranger?

 

just over 52k, its a 01 bought may of 2005. first time doing the plugs on this ranger.

 

looks like you need it... my new ones are going on in the spring...

 

yeah i'm sure mine needs it.. gonna do it eventually (or get someone else to!)

 

On the 4.0 the passenger side is definitely alot harder... I decided to just pay firestone
70$ to do mine, they forgot to put 2 vacuum lines back on too.. woot.
It took them 2.5hours lol and they tried to f- me over and not change one of em....

WOOT!

 

for the passenger side rear i just stuck my hand by the fan, went back to the firewall and was easy.

 

on some it is easier to access the plugs from the wheel well

 

i didnt have access to a floor jack and a adapter that wobbles.
but as always your results may vary.

 

You can access them easier by removing the wheel well shroud, which you do not need a jack for. The extra time to take it off is well worth it considering it gives you a straight shot at the plugs. I always do it this way and it really does save time and aggravation!

 

i recently did mine, and it wasnt bad at all. i'm getting better at it, especially since i've been checking my plugs regularly to make sure my n2o wetshot mixture tuning is appropriate. i didnt need to remove the shroud. i just use a wrench with a long socket, and a 3" extension.

on some of the plugs, i use the extension, and some i dont. also, i found that on a couple of em, (like the drivers side rear plug) it was easier to put the socket onto the plug by itself, THEN snap the wrench in. i was expecting it to be much more difficult than it was :o)

 

mine probaly need it.

 

I have a brand new set of blue plug wires sitting at my house waiting to get put in..I should probably by the plugs now huh

yea with the way my gas millage has been and how bad the gas is in michigan i think i might change mine but i only have 31,300 miles on my truck....i think im going to put NGK plugs in my truck!

BTW best thing to help yer plug change... Body lift! lol.. there right there in the wheel wells haha, and a header swap... a toddler could do

 

well with a body lift a toddler can just sit in the engine bay to do it. just dont start the truck til its all clear. ha
