204k plugs, wires, and injectors?
204k plugs, wires, and injectors?
Good day!
My '01 4.0 is running good with 204k miles on it. Since I got it in 2020 at 160k, I've done oil changes every 5k, but I can't speak to how well it was taken care of before that. But, it doesn't burn or leak any oil between changes. What I'm trying to decide is if it's worth the money to get new plugs and wires and and injector cleaning done at this point in the vehicle's life cycle, or if chances are good that it will simply be wasteful and the motor will die soon anyway. Any thoughts? Or other 200k+ tips?
Thanks very much,
James

Make sure you buy the correct length lead wires. I believe you end up with 3 part numbers.
YMMV Ha-ha, your mileage may vary...with driving habits, trip length, warm up frequency, differing tire resistance.
Dose your fuel with Chevron Techron in the proscribed 1 oz. / gallon before a stint of local driving.
Has the PCV valve been changed in the last 4/5 years? Inspect the plastic pipe connected to it. Inspect the action/cleanliness of the throttle plate.
Has the fuel filter ever been changed?
Make sure the chain tensioners have been changed. Every 100K miles is recommended.
