Suddenly super hard to get into 1st gear, 2nd and 5th hard as well.

I have a 1998 Ranger, 2.5 4cyl 2WD coming up on 200k.

Recently (just out of the blue, no progression really) it has become nearly impossible to get into first gear. Engine running or not, I have to slam it to get it to go. Once it’s in, it runs as usual. Yes, I’ve tried shifting from 2-1 and yes, the clutch is fully depressed. Nothing seems to make it easier. Also, while running shifting into 5th has also become way harder. Not sure why because to my understanding, 5th is not in any way related to 1st and 2nd? Need help figuring out what’s up, first was always a little sticky as I’ve heard tons of people say but in the past few days suddenly I can’t get into gear without throwing a heavy right jab into my shifter.

Also - reverse is pretty much the same as before. Only gears (currently) affected are 1,2, and 5.

Edit - I do remember about a week ago, I hit a pretty massive pothole. I was worried it did some damage, but everything seemed fine. Could this be related?
