I inherited a very dirty, very abused 94 ranger 4.0 4x4. I've been working on her to get it back on the road. It was parked after having a junk yard engine installed 2 years ago because of burning oil. Today i got it started and it was missing horribly. I took off the oil cap to see if it had excessive blow by but found it had excessive vacuum instead. I pulled the pcv valve and found that it was just a hollow black pipe instead. I replaced it with a proper valve and pulled the spark plugs. They were the nastiest I've ever seen. Once everything was new I fired her up and BOOM no smoke and she's running fairly smooth. I can't drive it yet because of other ongoing repairs but I'm curious if I've solved the oil burning issue. What do y'all think? Also, should I clean the inside of the intake with something? If so, I'd love some imput on what and how to do it? Attached are some pics of the plugs and pipe What was in the pcv spot Pcv pipe from the side Number 1 plug Number 4 plug. Nasty boy
I think you got it, I'd drive it around some ck oil and then in a bit check a plug or 2. if one is looking bad I'd pull them all, keep in order to see if you have a cylinder bad?
