4.0 ohv head gasket
4.0 ohv head gasket
I've got a 95 4.0 that I'm doing the tranny on. I had it sitting in the shop with the cats off but the y pipe still in place and dint notice any leaks. last night I took the y pipe off and then this morning I came back and noticed a pool of coolant on the floor and it was leaking out the manifold very slowly. I haven't had any previous issues with overheating or white smoke or anything like that. Im assuming its a head gasket. does anyone have experience doing one on this engine and how labor intensive is it. All input is appreciated. Thanks
If it is the head gasket Its very labor intensive. The upper intake, lower intake, valve covers all have to come off, not to mention all the small stuff just to get the problem. There's a lot to take off and keep track of. Hopefully, the head is not cracked, that opens the "pocketbook" really wide. LOL
Hi!
If you notice a coolant leak after removing the Y-pipe, it could indeed be a faulty head gasket, although it could also be a loose hose. Replacing the head gasket on a 4.0 engine is a fairly complex job that involves removing the cylinder head, intake, and other components. If you want to try to fix the problem yourself, I recommend checking out resources like How to Fix a Head Gasket Leak Without Calling a Mechanic?, which can give you some tips on how to tackle this type of repair. It is a laborious job, and it is important to check the condition of the cylinder head (which may need to be straightened) before installing a new gasket. If you are inexperienced, it may be best to consult a professional.
