I have no clue!!!!!please help if you can
i am 79 years old today and my poor ford ranger is still not running properly.
Sure would be a nice BD gift to figure it out here.
Been trying to figure this out for over a year. I do not have a obd1 scanner.
New tps
New iac
New mass af sensor
Here are my main symtoms
Cold Eng morning start Eng light on
Star cold engine rpm over 1000, truck dies, truck feels like it's going in and out of drive them truck dies
Engine continues same have a warming up engine feels like it is lowering rpm then light goes off and truck idle normal, speed acts normal with normal acceleration.
Then decrease in power, engine starts missing, Running very rich, black smoke. if parking may die.
This has continued off and on as I have used my truck.
Tomorrow I will start my truck and my rpms will be very high, shifting is very hard, mostly driving it this way is nearly impossible
Thanks

What is the general condition of this 31-year-old truck?
Has it been maintained?
What prompted you to change the TPS, IAC and MAF sensor?
My pal bought a cheap OBD1 scanner for a GM/Chevy. It was specific.
Do Ford OBD1 scanners exist? Is one needed? Is there a "Flashing LED" option?
Crossing the T's and dotting the I's might be needed.
Examples include Fuel filter, intake manifold leaks, make certain the PCV hosing is sound and connected and that the PCV functions.
Check for other vacuum leaks, check the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) and wiring. How is the wiring harness? Have mice gotten to it?
Could the secondary ignition (plugs/wires/cap + rotor) be shabby?
Check the large multi-plugs for water incursion and corrosion.
Happy Birthday

I have not treated the truck like some do. I have however tried my best to kept it well oiled and running.
I have checked wiring, and alot of the not so abvious. But to be clear I am not a 1994 ranger truck mechanic for sure.
This old truck has been so faithful over the years I hate to even complain. Even in the coldest of weather it would always be the
one the spin right up and started. This situation started abruptly, with no warning. The reasons for the parts changes is from recommendations from
forums like this one. I am not complaining however.
I have spent alot of time thinking about this trucks issues. What puzzles me is that after a brief coughing spell ( constant high rpms, engine dropping dead no sputter, and related symtoms) the truck start running normal with no issues. I am leaning toward electrical, coil, plugs, wires, pcm. I simply thought I would find someone in these forums that knew the truck welenough to get me into the right area. Nevertheless, I apreciate all who try and help.
Thankyou and many thanks to the forum.
