2004 3.0L Engine into a 2000 3.0L Flex Truck
2004 3.0L Engine into a 2000 3.0L Flex Truck
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Yesterday I bought a 2004 Ranger wreck with a 3.0 / 5spd I am planning on putting the engine in my 2000 Ranger 3.0 flex / auto. I need to know what all I will have to change to get it in there.
The 04 has a plastic upper plenium and guessing plastic lower intake. I am guessing I will have to use the original intake and plenium from the 00 engine. And with "U" heads, would I need to change flex injectors to "U" engine injectors? Or if my flex heads are good, swap them out and use flex injectors? I will be running reg grade fuel. Will the long block be the same, or will I have to change the heads?
I also know I will have to change out the clutch/flywheel for a flexplate. And are the 04 and 00 oil pans different? Looks to have a different gasket?
I had a '97 taurus engine I was going to use, but after reading about engine differences, the later model 3.0 blocks had more structure support, I wanted to go with a later model.
Anyhow, thoughts of what all I need to do to get this 2000 running again would be great. Thanks in advance for all helpful input.
Remember, there is one word to embrace this Thanksgiving Day......."Moderation". 😋😁

Put the 2000 upper and lower intake, fuel rail and injectors on the 04 engine.
Check that both camshaft position sensors have the same connector, some are 2 pin some are 3 pin, you may have to switch the camshaft position sensor

I am putting a 2000 3.0 flex into my 2005 3.0 gas. I have already dropped the engine in I swapped out the aluminum intake plenum and intake and injectors. Also the exhaust manifolds from the 05 on the 2000 the only problems I am having is my driver's side exhaust manifold is almost touching the heat shield and my power steering pump rubber line is way too close to the upper control arm mounting point. Where I can't put the rubber line on . I left the engine mounting brackets on the block from the 2000 and my 2005 motor mounts are brand new. Is their possibly a difference with the engine bracket or where it mounts to the block, or ever the power steering pump/ ac bracket??
Yes I am using the long block I feel like the driver's side of the manifold and power steering pump is just sitting tool low. Could there possibly be differences between the block brackets themselves
As I know of if you use all mounts, brackets, intake, upper plenium, and exhaust manifolds from your '05......I was told it would be the same thing. At least that is what I was told puting an '04 3.0 in a 2000...is what Im going to do.
Someone else with more experience with this than me.....please chime in. I am no expert.
