2.3 EGR valve
2002 ranger 2.3 EGR valve
I need to replace my EGR valve but it's behind the engine up against the fire wall making it really hard to get to. Is dropping the transmission a good way to get to it? Or will this not even work.ni would hate to go through the trouble of removing the transmission to still not be able to get to it. Is there another option. There is no room to work with from the top or bottom of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 2002 ranger 2.3

The truck is a 2002 2.3 the EGR valve is in the most inconvenient loacation. I cannot see it being replaced without dropping the transmission. Even then not sure if that would work. The trucks CEL came on and threw a P0400 code. I will check evry other possibility before replacing the EGR valve. I know that even if I change the EGR valve it might not solve anything. It could be a simple vacume leak. Stupid location for EGR all other years have it very accessible.
You can check EGR valve function by applying suction to the vacuum feed to the diaphragm. Engine running at idle, apply suction, the EGR should open and cause rough idle or even engine stall. No reaction means essentially no EGR flow, caused by clogged valve/tube/port, immobile valve, or leaking diaphragm.
This applies to EGRs operated by a diaphragm. If electronic, never mind. I do not have one this new.

Regarding the initial question for changing the 2.3L Duratec Ranger EGR "dropping the transmission a good way to get to it?"
My Ranger is a 2010 XLT 2.3L, is there any way to replace the EGR without removing/dropping the Transmission?
Thanks In Advance,
