Can someone please walk me through towing?

I'm so confused on how to calculate trailer weight and/or tow capacity. I've spent hours online reading and have seen several different ways to do this with not enough information available for my truck. Someone please help me. By my best understanding, I need to use the GVWR to calculate my truck weight, then subtract that from my GCWR?

I have a 2004 4.0L XLT 4x4 with the 5spd manual transmission. On the inside of my door, it shows my GVWR is 5000lbs. Front GAWR is 2710lb and Rear GAWR is 2600lb (but I think this doesn't matter from what i have read so far).

I don't have an owners manual. But one I found online (https://www.fordservicecontent.com/F.../04ranog3e.pdf). This document shows the maximum GCWR as 7000lb. I'm pretty sure I have the regular cab as I don't have rear seats and my bed is 6ft long. Nevertheless, the GCWR is 7000lb for all of the manual 4.0L models on that table, so I don't understand why the "Max trailer weight" differs so much between them. And is this really the max of the trailer weight you can haul or does it mean something else entirely? I thought this was supposed to be calculated by subtracting vehicle weight from GCWR. Please help lol

I just copied my notes taken from various sources:TOWING:
SuperCab 6’ box/4.0l V6 auto/ 3.73 or 4.10 has a GCVW 9,500 and 5,560 lb. Towing Capacity. The “55” in 5R55E refers to 550 ft-lbs. of torque.

3,100lbs Towing Capacity for the manual trans (<56% of an auto’s capacity)

2011 Ford towing guide here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/content/d...VTTowGuide.pdf
Page 22 has Ranger info
9,500lbs. is the "combined weight" of the Ranger, passengers, cargo in the cab and bed, the weight of the trailer and any cargo in the trailer.
Ranger 4x4 extended cab weights about 3,500lbs leaving 6,000lbs for the rest,

EXAMPLE: 440lbs = people + fuel, leaving 5,560 for trailer maximum
If you are carrying 500lbs more in the bed then max trailer drops to 5,060lbs
Most areas require trailer brakes (controller + wire) on any trailer over 1,500lbs

See if this helps. I went through this a year ago. It wasn't as complicated as I feared.
