Hello all, I’m about to the point to either fix the transmission in my 99 Ranger 4.0 OHV 55E (no first gear, pretty sure it’s the sprag) for about 2500 or swap with the 55E from my 98 mountaineer. Ranger is 4x4, mountaineer is AWD. I would only want to swap the trans for obvious reasons. I know the bell housing will bolt up but I see the torque converters are different in size, stall and bolt pattern.
First question, has anyone done this swap from SOHC to an OHV?
torque converters being different due to HP difference, I assume? but could I buy a new converter for the Ranger and run it on the 55E trans from the mountaineer? Spline count is the same, but before I start tearing into it I figured I would put some feelers out for someone with possible experience with this swap or who knows whether it will or will not work.
