Spare tire issue

My '99 Ranger XLT Off Road came with 245/75R16 tires, but the spare is a temporary tire 235/75R16. I just bought new tires and the installer said a 245/75R16 tire wouldn't fit in the spare tire space under the truck bed. The "temporary" spare has never been used and is now 26 years old. I believe it needs to be replaced but debating how best to do that. The cost of a replacement "temporary" tire is ridiculous, so I thought I would just have a cheap 245/75R16 mounted, but if it won't fit under the bed, so a 235/75R26 would have to do. The bigger tire was an option on my Ranger, so odd that Ford would use a 235/75R16 size as a spare. I haven't checked out the installer's comment that the bigger tire wouldn't fit, but I'll get under there today and see for myself, do some measuring, etc. What say, forum users?

Going from 235 to 245 is not much of a difference in height, so would not matter or be a problem when used.

The difference is .65 inch. Maybe not a problem as long as I don't drive very far on the spare or at high speeds.
