Icon5 1998 XLT 4.0 Bucking

Hi all, brand new here and thanks for having me.

I have a 1998 XLT 4x4 with the 4.0. I just rolled 168k on it. I've recently been having a "sputter/bucking" that only seems to happen at lower RPM (1500-1900) and only in 3rd-5th gear. I put a MAF Sensor on it yesterday to no avail. Just exploring options where to head next, I was thinking the DPFE Sensor/EGR. I put spark plugs in the truck about 15k miles ago. Thanks in advance for any help! Since I'm new I'll post up my Ranger!

I had a friend that experienced a similar problem. I don't remember the year of the truck but the problem ended up being the fuel pressure regulator. It would buck at the lower RPMs in most every gear.

Awesome, thanks for the reply! I have a DPFE Sensor on the way along with a Fuel Filter to try as well, figured if it's not the issue it's an old truck and could use it anways. I will look into that regulator as well.

This issue finally threw a check engine light yesterday. Turned out to be a cylinder 4 misfire. Swapped the plug and it’s good to go. Just took a while to throw a code for some reason.
