Dim dash lights

A 2011 XLT 4.0 has very dim dash lights and I want to see if I can fix that...with your help.
Any idea why just the dash lights. Can barely see them in town and difficult to read with no other light around?
turn signals on the column, at least it was on my '02 4.0. Not affected.
thanks
Anyone? i'm even less of an electrician than i am mechanic

There is a dimmer switch near the headlight switch....Have you tried that?

Yes.
or did you mean did i replace it.
No it has been that way since I bought it.
the dash has a cheap look to it and this xlt lacks many of the earmarks of one.
no power locks almost as though they were cleaning out the ranger warehouse. We're done making them.

If they're too dim even with the dimmer turned all the way up, you might need to replace them. It's a pain to get to them but worth it. I replaced mine with Sylvania 194LL LEDs and they're on the pricey side but very bright with no flicker, enough so that I can see the dash lit up in daylight when I turn my lights on. You'll need 6 bulbs.

If replacing with LED, be sure to verify polarity of the LED with the lamp socket. Incandescent lamps don't care about polarity, but LEDs do.
