Random Issue - Loss of traction when braking

Been a while since I last posted, so thanks in advance if anyone can offer some tips or suggestions. I have a Ranger 3.0 2WD with about 110K miles. The other day, I was traveling about 25 mph and hit the brakes hard when another vehicle started swerving into my lane. I have new front brake pads and new tires, and the road wasn't wet if I recall correctly. The truck basically lost traction and started skidding out of control, almost like I was driving on ice or something. The problem hasn't returned, but I am nervous because it happened at low speeds. Any ideas what I should check? Thanks.
