Loss of traction when braking

Sorry, reposting in a different forum hoping to get some help. I have a Ranger 3.0 2WD with about 110K miles. The other day, I was traveling about 25 mph and hit the brakes hard when another vehicle started swerving into my lane. I have new front brake pads and new tires, and the road wasn't wet if I recall correctly. The truck basically lost traction and started skidding out of control, almost like I was driving on ice or something. The problem hasn't returned, but I am nervous because it happened at low speeds. Any ideas what I should check? Thanks.

Antilock brake sensor, I'm guessing.

It is very easy to lock up the rear wheels on unloaded pickups. You didn't mention the year of your truck, but around 2000 they switched from 2 wheel ABS to 4 wheel ABS. Mine has 2 wheel ABS and it is easy to lock up the rears, however I would think that 4 wheel ABS would do a better job of controlling this tendency.

I would think you have 4 wheel ABS. It sounds like you have some sort of problem with it. Do you have an ABS light on on the dash? It seems like it should have set a malfunction code of some sort.

Yeah. he nelbur. No lights came on, no thing. I didn't think to check for codes though. I will do that and see if anything turns up.
