Loss of traction when braking
Loss of traction when braking
Sorry, reposting in a different forum hoping to get some help. I have a Ranger 3.0 2WD with about 110K miles. The other day, I was traveling about 25 mph and hit the brakes hard when another vehicle started swerving into my lane. I have new front brake pads and new tires, and the road wasn't wet if I recall correctly. The truck basically lost traction and started skidding out of control, almost like I was driving on ice or something. The problem hasn't returned, but I am nervous because it happened at low speeds. Any ideas what I should check? Thanks.
It is very easy to lock up the rear wheels on unloaded pickups. You didn't mention the year of your truck, but around 2000 they switched from 2 wheel ABS to 4 wheel ABS. Mine has 2 wheel ABS and it is easy to lock up the rears, however I would think that 4 wheel ABS would do a better job of controlling this tendency.
