Skidding on icy roads 2003 Ranger
Possible reasons not addressed in OP:
Driving too fast for the conditions.
Using cruise control.
Little tread left on tires.
Panic braking instead of pumping if you don't have ABS. ABS not functioning properly if you do.
Trying to maintain constant speed, especially going up hills.

It's difficult to respond to someone who decided to ignore what I wrote & instead just make it up as you please...
No braking was involved.
I was driving same speed as everyone else. Not snowing. I hit some ice BUT same as other traffic; no one else skidded only my truck - same thing in both instances (dif roads).
I noted all new tires.

Yes apparently I did hit ice but so did everyone else.

It's unfortunate because I do recall a time when there were great voices on here who spoke w respect & intelligence & sometimes humor. Your reply was none of those, which as stated, is unfortunate.
Also for the record: I've driven in multiple countries including those who drive on the opposite side of the road than here in the US. I've held driver's license in other countries than the US. I've also driven across the US E-W & N-S and possibly everywhere in between. All kinds of weather. I dare say I have more driving experience than you could ever hope to and yes, that includes standard shift as well as automatic. Good Day & Good Riddance.

Well let's stay on subjectr as best we can. I cant see the OP cause it's deleted, but driving in freezing conditions is a lost art. Pick ups are know for being dangerous in the snow w/o weight over rear wheels. I had a long commute in Maine for years and it was crazy to see the fools blowing by me doing 60 or 70 when I was going 40 and going 40 for a reason. ABS and skid control is amazing stuff but its not gonna help when you lose contact- when the rubber ain't meeting the road. In those conditions your not driving so much as you are persuading. In Maine we carry weight in the bed to get more tire contact. Sandbags, or shovel some snow in but you you dont want it far back - keep the weight over the wheels.

And there it is. Classic "I'm better than all of you, so I'm off with a huff" retort. If you have so much experience, why are you asking us peons?
Too bad you won't be back to tell us what you found wrong with your truck.

Knowing whether or not it was a straight stick.
Here's why I posted this as a possible cause as to why his Ranger might have tried to come around on him IF it's a manual. Apparently that info was deleted prior to my first reading the thread.
Here i simply gave the details to Gemini and it's response.

OP basically wanted to know why, driving at the same 40MPH speed as others were, he was the only one who went into the ditch. Then it became painfully obvious it was impossible to be operator error, only some mechanical issue TGDOTFOTP* overlooked.
In short, he's blaming his pit crew and wanted.... sorry... demanded ... to know what they missed. Hence, we were rewarded with:
