Oil Catch can
Oil Catch can
New to me 2021 Ranger STX with 44,000 miles. Truck is like new and runs perfectly. I've read that the 2.3 Ecoboost is notorious for carbon build up and installing an oil catch can is recommended. Also, other than good periodic maintenance, is there anything I can do to remove carbon that doesn't involve taking off the intake manifold?
alot of people say catch cans are needed and alot say nay. i have used it on another engine that supposedly needed it and it did actually catch stuff. how much danger that stuff would have caused, no idea, but they do catch stuff.
there used to be adapters you could get on amazon and etsy that let you walnut blast the valves and shop vac that media without removing the intake. i am not exactly sure where they are available because i would see them while looking at the stuff for my nissan titan v8 that was also di and would get build up on the valves.
j&l catch cans are way cheaper than the other brands and ae super nice. that is what i ran on my nissan. i have not put one on my ranger since my son never had one on his focus st and it still ran awesome at 160 or 170k miles when he sold it after he got a 24 ranger
