2008 Ranger 4.0L OHV Fuel Pressure Test Port

Hello all:
Looking for a definitive answer to determine if a 2008 Ranger 4.0L OHV has a schrader valve fuel pressure test port. I am in Tennessee and my son has my 2008 Ranger in Colorado. I just sent an OTC fuel pressure gauge with schrader valve adapter to Colorado, but I have recently seen remarks saying 2008 4.0 might not have a fuel test port. If I was in Colorado, I could determine this for myself. Can someone confirm if this is a yes/no or maybe answer? The vehicle build date is 10/2007.
If the possibility exists that a 2008 4.0 has a test port, a photo, diagram or description of approximate location would be great. I am just trying to give my son some long distance advice on troubleshooting a possible fuel pressure bleed off issue.
Thanks in advance.

Usually no — most 2008 Ford Ranger 4.0L (SOHC V6) engines do NOT have a Schrader valve on the fuel rail.
  • Some older Rangers had a Schrader valve test port on the rail to check fuel pressure.
  • But by the mid-2000s on the 4.0 SOHC, Ford often removed the rail test port, so you can’t hook a gauge directly to the rail. Instead you have to use an inline fuel pressure test adapter in the fuel line quick-connect fitting.

What that means for a 2008 Ranger 4.0

  • Most 2008 models: no Schrader valve on the fuel rail
  • To test pressure you:
    1. Disconnect the fuel line at the rail or filter
    2. Install a fuel pressure test kit inline
    3. Then attach the gauge

Thanks for the information. Bummer that Ford could not see fit to keep the schrader valve test port. After doing a VIN decode, I do indeed have a 4.0L SOHC. My bad thinking it was an OHV. Thanks again for the quick response !
