New Truck

Hey everyone, sadly, my 1996 Ranger decided he did not want to stay in this world anymore. He died on me on the way home from work yesterday. So I bought a new ranger. It's a 2004 Edge with the 3.0 engine in it. Now two things I couldn't figure out were, is it flex fuel and what is flex fuel. I would have tried last night, but it was around midnight when I finally got everything finalized with the truck, and I wanted to go home and go to sleep for work in the morning. Anyway, I'll take some pics at some point. Later

flex fuel means it can run on gasoline or e-85... an ethenol-gas blend or any mix of the two... sorry to hear about the 96 passing but congrats on the new one

I dont think the 04's have the flex fuel option.. Flex fuel vehicals can run on gasoline and alcohol fuel (ethanol)

I thought that flex fuel was the GM thing, but Ford has the little "tree leaf with a road coming out of it" emblem... Don't remember the official name of it. But it is supposed to be able to run on natural gas. It's in the owner's manual. Only a handful were made for that. Mine isn't.

I just saw a GM ad last night and they have Flex Fuel vehicles now too. But the 3.0 (in 03 atleast) had a Flex Fuel engine. Flex Fuel is the name for the e-85 I imagine. It's not specific to one manufacturer. It's not like Powerstroke and Duramax...they're both diesels. So like saying it's a diesel (ha! i only wish), it's a flex fuel vehicle.

I just don't know where the heck to get it, how much it costs and if emissions are the only benefit. If it were cheaper and got better mpg, that'd be great! haha, again, wishful thinking

You can tell by the VIN Number. I Have a 99 and I think its the 8th char. If its a V then its Flex Fuel.

Flex Fuel means you can burn the E85 fuel without causing exgine problems. E85 is mixture of ethanol and gasoline: 85% ethanol / 15% gasoline. In most areas of the US it is not readily available. It burns cleaner, is cheaper to buy and make and but the MPG is lower than just gasoline. If yours is Flex Fuel, there is probably a green leaf symbol on your tailgate by the Ford emblem.

They still offer the flex fuel option on the ranger 3.0. They never stopped making them.

looks good, but the exhaust looks bent the wrong way. Also what happened to your old truck?

The old truck was either the clutch or the transmission itself. Stopped going into some of the gears. I had first gear, and second up to about 2k RPM's and then no 3rd or 4th, but could get it into 5th. Unfortunately I couldn't wait and see if I could fix it cause I needed something for work. Got 2k for it as a trade so that wasn't too bad.

Yeah the exhaust looks a little funny, but it drives nicely. How's the ride with the 31's on that? Did you have to raise it any to get them on there?

my agressive/ studded 31's ride better then the stocks do, they have a small Hummmm, but i like it. I did the torsion crank awhile ago, but supposedly you dont need to do one to make them fit.

So here is my dilema. What should I do first, mod the engine I E tuner, e-fan, exhaust etc... Should I go for the 3 inch lift and throw some 33's on that bad boy, or should I go for a new H/U speakers, subs, and amp. I'm leaning toward a mix, new exhaust and the lift with new tires, but again, it's as my money flows in that I make my decision. I don't want to be saving for something really expensive first because I'll lose my patience and go buy something smaller anyway.
