fake scoop benefitial?

I have a imitation scoop on my ranger right now, and I was wondering if I cut part of the hood out that is under the scoop, would it be good to have all that air flow into the engine, or would it even make much of a difference?

if I remember tomorrow I'll snap a few

I'd assume it would help cool things and get better air flow in the engine seeing as how the scoop would be curving the air flow right down onto the manifold and all around the rear of the block, but I'm not an expert

A heat extractor scoop would have the hole on the backside to let the heat out, not air in. I would suspect the gains would be nothing. Who knows, though.

i'd be worried about loads of water from rain getting in there.. although, would such a thing hurt anything on the top of the engine?

I don't think a significant amount of rain would get in, and if it did it wouldn't make it far before being evaporated

Forcing air in isn't going to really accomplish anything useful. Letting the heat out would be more productive but equally as usless. Unless you have some modifications that cause excessive heat and it needs the ventilation, it would probably be a waste of time.

well, I'll see what kind of otehr projects I have going first.. I might just take a cut out tool and change it to extract heat. Can't take too long or much effort...

Don't waste your time or effort. A working scoop wouldnt do a thing, unless you moved your intake right underneath it, which you really dont ave rom for. As far as heat dispersion, you would do better to add spacers between where the hood mounts to the hinges, raising the back end of the hood up just a bit, letting much more heat out evenly.
I think that a member here has done the latter. It wont do much, but if you live in a really hot climate it wont hurt.

Just my O2 & experience..................

If your runnin a standard FI motor, the forced air would do nothin except cool your engine compartment, which is what most of the before posts are referrin too.

BUT, if you've got an engine bay like mine, the forced air WILL produce better performance out of your motor & get rid of the hot air within the engine commpartment!!!

So, it's up to you what you want to do & what is best for you application.

GOOD LUCK with whatever you do!!!

TimC in Tennessee....................

I like the looks of it, but I don't think it'll be beneficial.

It's not going to help. If you cut a hole it's just going to put a pocket of air under the hood and hurt fuel mileage. And in a good hard rain fuel injector wiring and plug wiring hates getting wet.
