Alright i see everyone with the brg all-terrains sayin they are the best...but they are also the most expensive and that people are just thinking the best is the most expensive. But i was wondering if anyone has the yokohama geolander a/t-2's. Yokohama makes just about some of the best road tires but i havnt heard anything from their a/ts. Also right now through Summit, if you dont get their catalog you should stop being an idiot and get it. but right now they have a deal going on with Cragar 15x8 rims and 31" yoko's a/t set of 4 for $555. Welcome. One of the reasons people are fans of the BFGs are b/c they are tried and true. BFG makes a damn good off road tire. And better yet, they're American made (I've been listen to John too much haha)

As for the deal, Cragars go for like $38 a piece if you are talking about the soft 8s. So that's ~160 which means the 4 tires are ~395...still about $100/tire. Good news is that they should come mounted and balanced from summit. $8.95 is their std shipping...dont know if that is the same for tires/wheels.

And you need a signature to give you the info on the 31s fitting. If it's a 4x4 or Edge, yeah they'll fit fine.

 

First off we (or atleast i) DO NOT think the BFGs are the best because they cost the most (which btw they dont). Most of us BFG owners have done the research and the BFG comes out on top.

As for the Geolanders: I assume you are looking for a aggressive (mut terrain-ish) look, but AT wear and overall performance. The AT2s look like they are up to that job... I say go for it

Looking at your profile you have a 1996. I believe you would need a 3" lift to fit 31s or a 5/5.5" to fit 33s

 

Foreign made stuff which hurts American manufacturing. Find a nice American tire if you don't want BFG's. There are great tires made by Cooper, Mickey Thompson and others. If you can't spend a couple of more bucks to hand your money to Americans instead of offshore interests, then there's something wrong with you.

You can't always buy American -- but there's really no excuse where things like tires are concerned.

If you like that Japanese stuff so much, sell your Ranger and buy a nice rice-burner and trick it up with stickers for other Asian junk.

 

if he has a 4x4 the 31's will fit perfect i have a stock 93 ext cab with the 4.0 and my 31's fit just fine no rubbing

 

yeah my bad... my previous statements were if he has a 2wd. With a 4x4 you can fit 31s stock and 33s with a 3" lift

the geo lander isa great tire, my friend had the bfg ats i had the bfg mudders and my other friend had the geo lander the ats do not clean them selfs out, the bfg mt somewhat cleaned itself .. the geolander cleaned the best outta the 3 i say go for it, good tire good for the money .... i personaly love the bfg mt but thats just me!

 

I worked for a Chinese company that made steel here. They sold out to the American company that currently owns us. The jobs were all domestic, the market was all domestic. The Chinese took a little money home, but Americans were working.

If a company uses mostly domestic content, and American labor, I'm fine with that. I just re-discovered (DOH! I actually knew this) that Cooper makes quite a few of the Yokohama tires -- or did. Don't know if that's true now.

B.F.Goodrich is currently French owned, but many of the tires are made here.

One problem is knowing where they are made. There's a way from the D.O.T. number to find out, but I haven't glommed on to it yet.

If Toyo or Nitto want to actually make the tires over here, then cool. I don't care where the fat-cat money goes -- but I want Americans working at decent wages with benefits. Manufacturing needs revitalization in the U.S. and however it gets done is okay. In a pinch, we could nationalize any foreign owned company. The point is Americans can work, learn, and the capability is HERE, not overseas.

 

I have Dean tires made by cooper currently.. I liked my toyo's better.. I think next round will probably be Cooper ST's as its not my everyday driver for work now.
(2days a week 120mi vs 350mi/wk before)

Just a note.. we need to keep it civil... on the other hand John(n3elz) some honda's made in the us have 70% us parts content.. this may rival some of the big 3's us parts content. Also how american are some of these american companies... all you hear
about is them moving offshore... It may happen soon that the foreign companies
are doing more for america than some american companies...

Back on topic.. the geolanders I have never owned but I have driven
them offroad.. they had good bite and overall very good but I was told they
wear somewhat fast...

yep thats what they do MANUFACTURE parts for toyota. and they are opening a new plant somewhere in the southeast within the next 2 years

 

Honda is a success story. My wife owns a Marysville built Honda. I respect them for their participation in the American marketplace where they are making cars, good ones, affordable ones, over here.

Why the big 3 can't do it yet like that, I don't know, lol. But: eventually they will -- since the foreign companies have more than proved it CAN be done right here in the U.S. The point is to encourage domestic investment by buying domestically produced goods wherever possible.

sorry i get a little on edge when people talk about how bad japaneze companies are when here in Tennessee there are more of them then american ones, also all of my friends that have graduated that went into the automotive field have gone to Nissan, Denso, Bridgestone, or Yamaha

I always had good success with Yoko's or Toyo's on my old Eclispe. My experiance with Goodyear has been nothing but bad. The next tires will be Yoko H/T-S G051, as soon as I'm done tearing the rubber off my RT-S crappers. I predict a few more power slides should finish the job.
