Cat

i doubt that this is a "new" idea, i want to put a high flow cat on my truck to complement the muffler and possibly get me a little better gas mileage. i work at an auto parts store and ive got a hookup at a buddy's muffler shop so price wont be that much of an issue. for me... gettin the new cat and getting it put in would be less that $85 bucks. i guess the question is... has anyone on here ever done that before?.. and if so how did it work out for you?

I um.... Cut mine off. I'm not sure about Fords, but i had to get an o2 simulator so I didn't throw a code. But I sure noticed an increase when I did chop it off, the cat was a MAJOR bottleneck in my exhaust system

from what i've read, removing the cat deducts your hp, the cats are supposedly Hi-Flow stock

so wait... theres 2 cats on my system... which is the best one to remove (if not both), how do i know if mine is already a high flow. i really doubt mine is because it has 2 cats with a huge bottlneck on it. more than performance i want some better mileage

the first "cat" you see is a preheater cat designed to warm the 02 sensor the 2nd one is the actuall "cat". i'm sure you have heard this b4 "not only is this illegal but its also i waste of time and effort and will do nothing for you".........just wait til griggs chimes in he'll give you the skinny on everything else.......

so im confused... how does takin the stock cat out to replace it with a better flowing one illegal? that's like taking out a stock muffler to replace with a better flowing one. in that respect... what you're telling me honestly doesnt make since. and if its illegal to install a high flow cat on your vehicle... why are they sold so openly at most parts stores, exhaust shops, and performance shops around?

It's already a high-flow cat. they are for sale at parts stores for older vehicles with more restrictive set-ups. That's not what they are saying is illegal

what's illegal is removing the cat(s) and not replacing them. On top of being illegal it's seriously pointless unless you want your exhaust to cost you gas mileage and power just for extra sound. this point has been proven over and over and just run into the ground.

if you want better gas mileage, get an E-fan and new pulleys

because stock is the best for your truck. AFtermarket isnt made for your truck. Since they dont know what you're replacing that cat with its not approved.

And we already have high flow cats anyways.
