I kept wanting to post this but kjept forgetting

is this a "warranty eligiable defect"? its most notable on inclines, and even more noticeable on steep inclines... also, how many timing chains does my ranger have anyways? some people have told me on, others have told me 2, and someone said i have 3? how can it have 3?!

 

I am starting to notice the same issue. I get it bad around 1800 rpms. It goes away above 2500. I am at 29200 miles.

 

its a never ending battle that you prolly wont win.

the issue is suppose to be fixed from 03 on. i thought i had the issue too, but then i never notcied it agian or i got used to it.

its just something i have learned to live with.

 

The only time I hear mine is with the hood open.

But everytime you bring your truck in for work, mention it so that it goes on record. That way, if somewhere down the road it causes problems, it shows you mentioned it and it'll be Ford's problem, not yours.

 

You have three!!! One connecting the crankshaft to the jackshaft, one connecting driver side cam to jackshaft, one connecting pass. side cam to jackshaft(this chain is on the rear of the engine!!!!!!).

 

I had same problem.. they fixed it up under warrenty.

 

miknes been rattling forever. I forst noticed it at like 6K miles, only cause someone on the old GE mentioned it is the only reason i noticed it. I mean, if its rattling, that means its loose and will throw the timing off right?

 

I have the same problem except alot worse. Mine doesn't go away all through acceleration unless it's switching gears. Also, i think my timing is way off. My truck bogs down extrememly low from a stop and then wants to go. It's eating gas like crazy too. (Just had new fuel/air filter and oil change) Still only getting 180 miles a tank.

 

It's a lateral movement of your timing tensioner. The have to remove the tensioner and replace it. If that doesn't work, they have to replace the tensioner and sprockets...

And no, it's not fixed in 2003 and up. I have this damn noise again.
