Gas Mileage

All of you out there with 4wd 4.0L engines running 33's with no chip or regearing or anything. What are you getting for mpg's? I'm getting like 12 constant and I dont get it. New plugs, fuel filter, air filter and my flowmaster. that just doesn't seem right.

I'm running 33's, 3" BL, 4.0, 4.10, Bamachips tuner -> getting 18-19 mpg. The tuner added on about 2-3 mpg for me.

yea auto and my speedo has been recalibrated.... kinda. I did the gauge mod after the lift so I THINK it's pretty accurate. I'm at like 90 miles now with a half tank.

just becasue you did the guage mod doesnt mean its counting miles right.

you odo is off.

look how high your a$$ end is, that isnt helping either.

do you drive liek a bat out of hell? that prolly isnt helping either.

change your driving style, get a tuner, get better mpg.

I'm not sure if you have an oiled filter, but I do, and after getting some MAF cleaner my mileage jumped 2-3 mpgs.

yea I've got a k&n and i usually try not to go over 2500 rpm because that helps a little bit and yea she's got some rake to her. I wanna get a tuner but tires are coming first because I've been sayin i was getting those for like 3 months and they haven't gotten better yet.

My 2002 is bone stock except for the exhaust system, and I'm only getting about 16-17 with mine. I do have the 4.0L, 5spd auto, and 4.10 limited slip rear end. So I guess I'm doing pretty good. So far this tank I have traveled 245miles on 3/4 tank, that's mostly freeway driving (75mph at 2700rpm). I'm thinking of adding a airaid highflow intake, and poweraid throttle body spacer. Most people don't like the spacers, but I have one on my silverado, and it gave me 2 more mpg. Plus the truck sounds like it has a turbo on it.

You know my set-up, 33's with no tuner..

I alaways get 15-16 MPG. I also factor in about 10 or 15 miles in for every 100 that the odo counts. It might not be perfectly accurate, but close.

But your exhaust, i bet thats not helping, ditch the flowmaster, get a borla/magnaflow, and tailpipes, not dumped. Hope that helps dude.

you have 3 problems... body lift = more wind resistance
big agressive tires = even more wind resistance from height + rolling resistance

What size flowmaster the wrong size will make you lose torque and gas mileage.

Driving style.

If I drive moderately I get 18-20mpg with 32's and a whole lot of tools, winch etc.
I have gotten consistantly 18.5-18.8 for 1000+ miles at a time.
Winter in OHIO is more like 17mpg though.

I also have an apten chip but it doesnt really affect milage.
I have tried it on both settings as well as off and the results were
so similar as to be unproveable... over 300-500 mile periods

Drop to 70 MPH and you will notice a noteworthy increase in mileage. I've been getting 18-20 MPG.. of course I have the 5-speed manual and also keep my revs down in town. That helps quite a bit too.

I got 32'' Tires and im getting 17.5 consistantly in town (my speedo is right). Someone had told me, now dont laugh at me its what i heard....Bigger tires in SOME CASES change your gear ratio, and in a few cases change it just enough for better mpg, i find that VERY hard to belive due to the simple fact you have more weight to move #1, and #2 i think its alot of wind resistance, and turning mass for any V6. I dont really know? I just dont think it would be

I saw you all talking about tuners... what all has everyone used? I am looking for something cheaper but still good quality.

I know they say oil changes, air filter changes, air pressure in tires, are some common ways to insure good gas mileage.

The last two tanks of gas I have averaged 18mpg. So that seems more like where I should be. I did an oil change tonight with full synthetic oil, and a good filter so maybe that will help out with a little more mileage.

Bought a K&N filter for my ranger today so we'll see what kind of gains that will give me in the coming weeks.

Scored just a hair under 21 MPG last week. The new commute has me logging ~100 miles a day. Gas is way cheaper back home than it is near work (or anywhere on the way), so I chanced it and pushed it until I got home. I swear I coasted into town on fumes.. pumped > 18 gallons for the first time ever! ... Still, 21 MPG, I'll take it..
