hey i'm gonna be making some traction bars for my truck in school and i really like the simplicity of the james duff ones i remeber someone made a copy of them a while back and i was wondering if anyone could post some pics of the bars and brackets along with some dimensions and maybe a parts list sayin the sizes of the poly bushings that would be much apreciated thanks alot guys i hope you guys can help me out

 

damn. good luck with the project, shouldnt be too difficult, everything's pretty straight forward.... if you have dimensions to work with.... which you dont, and neither do i... so good luck =)

If you want them to work, and not hinder your articulation/wheel travel, you should take apart your leaf pack, so it's down to just the main leaf & cycle the real from full bump to full droop to see how far back the axle moves at bump. You will then have to figure out the length of the traction bars that will swing in an arc (mounting points play a BIG role here, too) that matches the movement fore/aft of the axle as it moves up & down. Otherwise, your traction bars will limit your wheel travel/articulation.

Poly bushings might also limit articulation to some extent, so check into that...rod ends might be better.

 

just thought of something, you might wanna try talking to a manufacturer or looking up some kit trac-bars so you can get an idea of all the stuff you need. on Jutty's truck, he had new u-bolts, new mounting plates, and the entire trac bar assembly itself. hope that helps some. unfortunately i dont remember the name of the company he bought his from.

 

i got the james duff ones...ill dig through my garage and see what i can find measurement wise...if not ill try to get some measurements this weekend, shoot me a PM of what exactly you want!

 

Its gonna be hard to make a set for less than the basic Duff bars, especially if you find a used set.

I have some traction bar brackets that fit on the leaf springs. PM if interested. That's the hardest part of everything to make.

 

my effort came to a sudden hault on my custom bars. im not sure why but it did and i just dont have the time to mess with it at the moment.

 

hey so far i've had to rebuild half my drivers side leaf hanger because it had a nice thin spot from rust but overall this project is gonna be fairly cheap i'm gettin all the steel at a very good price (purchased through school) and i got all my poly bushings for 27$ through summitracing.com i will be completing the rear mounts for the traction bars tomorrow and if we have the steel in i will be starting to make the actual bars
