Humming Noise
Humming Noise
Okay I have a humming noise. That is the best way I can describe it. It almost sounds like a bus engine if you have heard them hum. The noise is always there it does change pitch with the rpms I don't think it is the tranny because it still happens in Neutral and Park. It is not the IAC valve I have heard this before and fixed it.
I noticed it on my way to work on tuesday. It could have been there monday but I don't know. Keep in mind that last saturday I was playing in mud (check avatar).

Okay so if the problem is torque converter how do I narrow this as the problem. I am going to say that it is not the fan although I guess I could be wrong since the sound could be the rushing of air.
Come on does anyone else know what could be causing this problem.

It's not a whine by your power steering/Air Condition pump/compressors? My 3.0 (yeah I know, competely different) whines and hums like it's turbo'd or supercharged . . . just some other things to think about.

It is not the IAC the noise is different than a hum from the IAC besides my IAC is practically brand new I replaced it less than 2 months ago.
What is the Idle Speed Motor???
My 98 hums pretty loud too when humidity and the temperature outiside are high. I've heard the same hum on explorers also. The hum only happens at idle. I've been told to replace the mass air flow sensor and that would fix it.
