my check engine light cam on so i scanned the computer and it said EGR excesive flow. The truck runs fine put the guy told me my egr valve is probaly not seeted properly or its leeting to much air in the air/fuel mixture. Is this a big problem. I need to clean it maybe soak it in cleaner if anybody knows where it is can u take a picture or tell me what to do thanks

 

When you get a code for excessive flow, the EGR valve is not the problem. 99.9% of the time that code is caused by a faulty DPFE sensor that measures the EGR flowrate. A new one costs about $40~60.

The OHV its on the driver side, I'm not sure about the SOHC.

 

i have a 2002 edge 4.0 think its a sohc not sure, but do i have to get the part from ford or can i order it threw like autozone or something unless u know a good website,

faulty DPFE sensor, where is the sensor located and is it hard to fix, so if i get the new sensor and erase the code with the scanner that should get rid of the check engine light?

 

also is it ok to drive my truck is this a big problem?

 

Drive it its ok. The fuel economy will be lower tho.

make sure when you get a new one you get the plastic one, do not get the metal one or you will have the same problem you have now a few years down the road.

 

Yes, if it's a 2002 4.0, then it is SOHC.

You can buy the part at most auto parts stores although some incorrectly call it an "EGR Position Sensor". Personally, I would buy the genuine Ford part if I needed one.

A 2002 DPFE sensor is tube mounted and very easy to change. It is usually black and about an inch square and looks something like this generic picture:

most of the OEM DPFE sensors are made out of aluminum, they corrode and get all nasty inside (being the reason they go bad).
i have seen my dad replace ALOT of these.. and every time they get replaced with the new updated plastic sensor.

 

i think ur egr doohickey is near the top of the engine next to the big plastic thing that says 4.0 on it, in other rangers its rusty and looks L shaped just for reference - i painted mine black.
