Best RPM to shift at?

Whens the best time to shift? Max Torque (3250 RPM, right?) or max Horsepower (5250ish, right?)? I'm thinking along the lines of best performace on a stock truck. I'm still sporting the stock computer, but have always wondered just when is the best time to shift for max performance. I've always thought it would be where Torque maxes out, but when I bring it all the way up, it always seems like a smoother shift. Experts? Thanks!

Edit: Just for those that always ***** about specs not included; 4.0 SOHC and the 5 Speed manual.

In the user's manual it says to shift at about 2k rpms for best fuel economy.

I'm not positive on this, but if you're wanting performance, I'd say drop the clutch at max torque (provided you can get traction) and then shift near redline/max horsepower.

I just shift it at redline. Seems to get the best acceleration that way, but I could be wrong, I've never timed it or anything.

I know that at WOT, my Automatic has no problem hitting 6K RPM before shifting. I try not to do that because it makes me a little nervous but the 4.0 SOHC really comes alive and pulls like crazy above 4K RPMs.

Thats what I feel too. This damn thing wants to tear my 33's up it feels like when it reaches the upper RPMS.

And kyle, your saying basically start Near 3k, and use that 3k-5.5k window for driving if one were looking for the best perf. on a 4.0?

if im accelerating and need a little speed, i ususally shift between 3k and 4k. if im just taking my time, usually between 2500 and 3k, depending on how fast im going. i very rarely take it above 4 grand, being that is only a 2.3 with bigger than stock tires, and not a race truck. i try not to abuse it too much

Before the truck went in for repairs I was shifting @ 5.5k-6k in every gear. Whoo! I hit the rev limiter a few times! Didn't even know it had one haha.

Normally I shift @ 2.5k when puttin around town, 4k when accelerating to get onto a highway.
