Oh Chebby Springs

Do they have to be 2wd? or can they 4wd? I got a set, but im not sure yet which ones they are.

and how much of a raped ape would the truck turn into with them on the truck now? with just coil spacers up front?

It is easy to tell the difference. 2WD is 4 leaf, 4WD is 5 leaf.

Although either will work, my choice would be the 2WD springs. They are quite a bit stiffer than the strongest factory Ranger leaf pack and raise the rear about 3".

The 4WD springs would definitely have a harsher ride than I would want.

was the hieght it raised without the factory block , or ontop of it? Becuase mine is 2wd, and i dont have factory block, or any for that matter back there.

I think the springs are 2wd, three leaves and an overload. maybe not, im feelin lazy and dont wanna walk outside and see.

Thanks alot Bob

On my 4x4, it raised the back about 3". I have the same factory block that I had before, so the 3" was totally due to the springs.

If you raised the rear 3 in Bob what did you do with the front?

Longer shocks on custom mounts, strapped, mildly cranked torsions and realignment. The rear is still way higher than the front though.

For 97-back, the front hangers are a different shape so you can only reuse one of the factory rivet holes. Other than that, it is similar to 98-on. Here is a thread showing the process:

yea, i saved those same pics. But i was reading on TRS, and theyve warned not to install the springs without the chevy shackles as well. they say the ranger shackle is insufficient and will have a bad angle.

Im not looking to put the springs and shackle on right now. just trying to get some stuff done on the SAS project, and this is one step. also allows me to sell my duff bars.

Yes, the angle is poor using a stock Ranger shackle. Despite what you hear, the Chevy spring swap is not a perfect fit.

Using the stock Chevy shackles won't help much because they have almost the same dimensions as the stock Ranger part. Longer aftermarket Chevy drop shackles will improve the angle but also lift the rear of a Ranger an additional 1"~1.5".
