Icon11 70,000 miles on a 4.0 SOHC w/o an oil change!

IM COPYING THIS DIRECTLY FROM ANOTHER SITE I AM ON, THIS WAS SOMEONE ELSE'S POST IM JUST PLAGERIZING!

02 Exploder comes in with rear timing chain noise. Not uncommon on the 4.0l Ford V6 SOHC motor. You have to take the engine out to fix it and the lady has an aftermarket warranty. So the warranty company wants us to pull the engine and determine the cause of failure. So this is what we found. Keep in mind this engine only has about 70,000 miles.

Can't possibly imagine what the problem is. The warranty company asked for oil change receipts and she came up with 12 that were clearly photocopies with the dates and milage altered, including one that showed more milage then the car has on it and we also had other real ones that showed inconsistant milage with the fake ones she gave us. So now its in "administrative review" i.e. the Warranty company is going to stick her with it due to obvious neglect. New engine will run around $5k+ and she pretty much has to do it cause the old one is out, apart and shot. Guess she should have used that fancy 7,500 mile oil huh :)

Too bad you can't fix stupid.

Sorta along the same lines... The people we bought our house from had low water pressure. Turns out that in the YEARS they owned it they never replaced the water filters. They thought it just had "low pressure".

She probably did change it every once in a great while. Just enough to make it last 70k it would seem.

btw: If the filter gets plugged the oil just by passes it.

Yeah thats what i was thinking....Once in a great while.

I know if the filter gets plugged the oil passes, but when this happens your motor dosent have too many miles to go until its toast, lol.

Funny you mention this.

This is the exact reason I bought a new ranger. I looked at about 4-5 used ones and was just VERY unimpressed at thier condition for having 2-3 years on them. One only had "20k miles" on it. But it looked more like it had driven 100k miles down a michigan dirt/rock road.

I go 18K to 20K without an oil change - but that's on Amsoil synthetic and I get the oil tested.

70K? Unreal how people can neglect the simplest things. They probably were told it wasn't necessary and that it was just something the oil companies set up to make money. Seriously. I've actually heard guys say that: "just keep the oil topped up and drive -- it don't make no difference if you change it..."

Of course, they were all alcoholics, but that's irrelevant...

WOW! I'm amazed it lasted 70,000 miles. Hmm, I do need to change my oil in the next two weeks...I don't have the luxury anymore of having a lift, so it looks like I either crawl under the truck with a wrench and a pan or take it to Jiffy Lube (the local place does solid work, I'm confident with them).
