how to decide what turbo....?

looks like I will be turbo-ing my 4.0 sohc ranger. I don't know much about turbos but I need to know how to determine what size and trim and such to start me off. Anyone good with this or know where I should go to (ie website or anything) to figure it out? I will only be running about 4-5 pounds of boost with an intercooler. I am going to be trying to do my own STS type system, the turbo will go where my big catalytic converter was and run across the bottom, under the passenger to under the driver to the other side of the frame (outside of frame). It will then run up to the front of the truck up and over the upper control arm and then down just below the frame into an intercooler that will send it back across the underside of the truck behind the vailence and up to the existing K&N intake tubing. I will not be replacing my MAF, I will just be doing my best to make it a strait shot into the stock one. I would love to run a loud blowoff valve but I am sure it will get annoying and attract unwanted attention from you know who, so it will just be a bypass valve instead. If any of you have seen the Tacoma kit, I will be working with that idea. Any help is appreciated, I will be shooting for the end of the summer to get this done if it doesn't blow my budget.

christian, Frddriver somethign or other has a supercharger from a 3.8 for sale. You can buy a kit for like 1500 or so and supercharge it.

your on the right track, sts has a uni kit that will work on your setup, so long as there is a tuning solution.. i think sct has one... your oil supply comes from the oil sender unit location-we are a sts dealer and do many installs a year- my shop could be the best solution if you want to farm it out or need help, we also have a chassis dyno... 530 245-9380 lol

For the record...

For the record, an STS Turbo comes in stages of an assembled kit. the stages DO NOT indicate RWHP. It depends on your set up. Superchargers tend to be considered a "bottom end" solution. The difference between the 2 are as follows: Superchargers are pulley and belt driven by your crankshaft. In other words you take power from the engine to create boost. Turbochargers are powered by your exhaust gasses. The exhaust gasses turn the impeller from which air is drawn in on the opposite side of the turbocharger which is fed into the intercooler and is forced within your intake manifold. causing a more complete burn and a richer but cooler air fuel mixture. Whom ever told you to supercharge it with a 3.8 liter supercharger is sadly mistaken. The 4.0 in the Rangers, and the 3.8 liter mustangs use different manifolds. Plus you will have to change your MAF because the stock MAF can't handle the amount of air pushed through your stock air intake system. They also use different internals too. The only thing that will fit off a mustang in your 4.0 engine wise would be the Throttle Body and that's about it. Plus Superchargers tend to have an extremely low amount of boost and for about the same price your better off turboing it.
