So yesterday I walk into the local Auto Parts Extra. As luck has it I was wearing my old 'Midas' hat. The girl that was working behind the counter spotted it and spotted me - we used to work together at Midas before we both moved on to other things. Long story short, I talked myself into parts at cost. Yay!

$150 (Canadian, taxes in) for a Magnaflow stainless muffler and a 3" rolled tip. Yay! lol

I threw the stuff on as soon as I got the parts. It's so nice working on a new truck! The spring bolts and speed nuts on the centre pipe flange came out so easily. The muffler is a centre-to-side style and a bit shorter than stock, so with just a couple cuts, a 6" extension pipe and a few welds it slid right in.

The only down side is that my helper who was holding things in place slipped while I put the first couple tacks on the tailpipe. So now I need to trim and adjust the angle at the back. Oh well. I knew that had to fiddle and cut it anyway to make the tip work in the first place. When I head into the shop after the long weekend I'll sort that out.

Doing things by yourself for the win. Cheap parts help too.

The Magnaflow sounds mean. I had one on my old 3.0 Ranger, but the B4000 makes it ten times better. It's a deep, throaty sound at 1200-1600 and 2800 - 3300 rpm. Otherwise, it's a quiet setup with very very little interior drone. Compared to some of the other performance mufflers out there, I think it's one of the classier options.

my brother's got a megnaflo on his explorer's 4.0. its sounds really good, i like it alot. but the interior drone is soooo forkin loud, driving from watertown NY, back to Iowa, 13 hours straight suuuucked, once we finally got out i had this horrible ringing for hours hahahaha.
