I'm looking at getting a set of 17's for my '98 Ranger 4x4 and I'm pretty sure I won't have any fitment issues, but just want to double check. I looked at the sticky at the top of the page and I think I'll be fine. I listed the size of the wheels/tires below. I currently have 15's with 235/75/15 Firestone M/T's.

17X8.5 5-114.3 -6MM
P265/70R-17 = 31.61 10.43 Terra Grappler AT's.

not sure on the -6mm offset you have a backspacing measurement?

 

No, I don't... That's all of the info I have on it.

 

Well if I did the conversion right in my head the backspacing would be about 4"

DISREGARD=> Also, Im sure you know this but, just incase you didnt realize it, that rim has a different bolt pattern and will require the use of adapters.

 

114.3 mm is equal to 4.5 inches, the same as the ranger bolt pattern

and that rim will have a 4.5 inch backspacing, the same as stock

this is what my truck use to look like with 265-70-17

 

Ahh my mistake on the bolt pattern. I just saw mm and didnt think to convert.

But as for the backspacing shouldnt it be 4" since it has a negative offset from the center line? 4.25" - 0.25"?

 

I like that... Did you have any issues with rubbing??? Are you at stock ride height??

 

those will rub if you stuff em...

i cant imagine BS on a stock wheel is 4" i have like 3.3" on my classic IIs and they stick out farther, i thought stockers had some negative stuff going on

 

Discounttiredirect says that they will fit, but only says the following 2 tire sizes fit: 245/65-17
255/60-17
Those 2 tire sizes have limited selection and I was looking for something around 31.5".

that link is a chart of offset to backspacing conversion, if you look at 8.5" wide rim at -6mm offset, the chart says that = 4.5" backspacing


as far as rubbing goes, it will rub if you hit a bump while cornering, but under normal driving conditions it does fine with no rubbing

 

don't listen to discount, what they say is to cover their asses.. its good advice, kinda to listen to them but you can put what ever you want under your truck

 

Doh, I concur now...i kept forgetting to add an inch to the rim width to account for the flange. And I got thrown off because if you accidentally add the offset to half the rim width, instead of subtracting it, you get 4.5" also. Another example of why its bad to even do basic math off the top of my head...so for future search reference:

Backspacing = (Rim width + 1")/2 + Offset

 

I ordered them, but the wheels are out of stock, so it'll be 3-4 weeks before I get them!

 

Damn it, they just called and said that they aren't making those wheels in 17's anymore... So I'm either getting the same wheel's in 16's or the MB72's in 17s...
