Dana 44 with a Corporate 14 bolt in the rear

I have a 6 lug waggy 44 waiting to go in up front, and I'm thinking about matching it up with a corporate 14 bolt. Chevys and GMCs used a 6 lug 14 bolt on the 3/4 ton trucks for a while. I know they use massive ring gear. 10.5" right? And that would kill some clearance, but they're a dime a dozen and I've found a few that have been converted to disk brakes. Do they use a thirdmember like 9"? What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Adam

i think the 6 lug 14 bolt is like 9.5" ring gear and is semi float, no 3rd member

Yomie's right. The 6-lug 14 bolt is completely different from the full-floater 14 bolt. The only thing that is the same is the number of bolts on the diff. It's a semi-float design and has a 9.5" ring gear. You might want to consider converting your D44 to 8 lug instead.

If I'm going to convert anything I might as just well convert my 8.8" to a 6 lug.

Right?

I would rather convert the D44 to 8 lug, leaves you room for a front 60 in the future and not having to get a new rear. Plus the 6-lug waggys have weak 7/16" threads on the studs

8 lug 14bolts can be found cheap

I am going 8 lug on my D44 just because it leaves room for something stronger in the future.

I've been part of installing new axle shafts on a rear but what all does it take to convert the front?

Because I do like the idea of eventually going to a 60, I just don't have the need... yet.

3/4ton outers

knuckles, spindles, hubs, brakes off of a D44 3/4ton Ford or Chevy. They bolt right onto any D44

On the explorer board IZWack did one, you could PM him, Pirate will eat you alive if you ask them

I'm planning on running leafs. I'm a budget wheeler if you want to call it that. I just cant afford the radius arms set up or a 4 link.

I'm not planning on running anything bigger then a 37"

Most of the wheelin I do is rocky trails. I'd like to be able to fex out enough to de some pretty decent rock crawling. And who can resist playin in the mud?

I'm not plannin on doin anything toooo hard core, and I think the 44 is a fine set up for me. The 60s around here are well over a grand a piece.

I'd like to, but I'm 17, paying off my truck, saving for school, and trying to build up my truck. I know plenty of guys who run leaf rigs and they work awesome.

yeah i asked on pirate... that site is almost worthless. so many of them have power trips bossing others around.

as for the D44 3/4 ton swap im working on it now. i just need some ball joints and a few seals and i can put it together.

Yeah, you can find some 'hard to find' parts on pirate, plus their vendor sales are really good
