Any NEW 4.0 performance coming down the road?

I am torn right now between sending money on my truck to gain performance or buy a used Mustang to play with during summer. Besides intake, exhaust, pulleys and tuning whats out there? Isn't the 4.0 SOHC in the Ranger almost the same as the 05 and up V-6 Stang? I see you can run 10's with a highly blown V-6 Stang. Besides the EE supercharger, thats about it right?

Maybe I should leave my truck as is, see what Ford does with the NEW Ranger or whatever, and buy a Stang? I am no longer into ATV's so I need something to play with.

I dont know if you have made up your mind about this yet but I would say to get an around '04 mustang. A supercharger is going to cost you 5k plus and then more if you cant install it yourself.

Not to mention that your ranger will be put out of commission for a few days.
An '04 V8 mustang you can find for around 12k if you look around. And you'll have a really fun toy to cruise with.

By the way, when I say '04 I dont neccessarily mean that you have to get an '04, but I am refferring to the body style which I believe Ford used from 1999 to 2004.

I just read the post all the way and it says that you are no longer into ATVs. So, get a dirt bike then. They are much more fun and there's a lot less of a chance that the thing is going to follow you back down the hill when you dont make it. So, in those respects, I'd say its much safer.

Plus, with it being around the holidays and stuff the brands will have some killer deals.

For about 7k you can swap in a cummins with 250 - 350 hp. They are 105-120 stock so slight modding is needed. Keep in mind im talking about the 4bt which weighs as much as a big block ford.

Add another 5k to do SAS front and rear rolling on 35+ tires.

YMMV. Pending on parts sources and choices.

I gotta say, never seen a Cummins in a Ranger. I would think a cute little turbocharged 4-banger would fit?

I guess the point of this thread was this. Right now aftermarket 4.0 performance is very limited, 4.6/5.0 is not. About the time a spend $$ on my truck's engine it or something else will go out. Beings how it's my daily driver and all......a Mustang could sit in the shed for awhile if it has to.

btw...dirt bikes are fun.....they got so much power on one skinny tire.

What about getting a 94 or so 2wd ranger and dropping in a 5.0? Then keep your current ranger as a DD?

Derangedpony....crazy ideas like that do pop into my head from time to time. Gotta remember, I derby combines painted like the General Lee.

Might be going 4-banger for the daily driver and getting a Stang for play.

But for now, it's gotta warm up before I get real ambitious. -2 degree for a high here in IA!
