Hi ! I have a 94 4.0 OVH & am trying to remove the fan blade. I bought the Ford fan & clucth removal tools but I did was strip the nut. Does loosen the nut counter clockwise mean as you are standing in front of the engine or behind? Any feedback on this removal process would be greatly appreciated as I also need to replace water pump! Truck has 197,000 miles and is a supercab.

You're in luck as I just got done replacing the water pump on my '97 4.0L OHV...

Yes, facing the front of the engine (or the front of the truck) the fan nut loosens counter-clockwise. After that the water pump is a piece of cake to replace as the bolts are all the same size and length and no engine accessories need to be removed to get to it. It would help to have the Radiator removed (and its only two bolts to do so)

 

The second picture down (ON THIS PAGE) is a tool I made for holding the pump still. I've used this home made tool now for YEARS. It works like a charm everytime.

Just unscrew two of the bolts, put this flatened fence post over those holes, and then put the screws back in.

You hold the water pump still and turn the fans nut counter clockwise.

The corners on the nut are rounded as I had to apply enough force to round the corners off and bend the wrench. I hoping for another suugestion. I cannot get the nut to budge in any direction!

I had the same problem on an old B2 i used to have, I had to remove the water pump and put it in a vise and then it wasn't easy.
A pipe wrench and a cheater bar might break it loose.
I think it may have loc-tite on the nut, you could heat it up with a propane torch until it melts the stuff.
Since you stated the nut is rounded off a pair of vise gripes could do the trick.

Well holidays are over & I finally got the fan blade chanaged with a little help from a 1-3/8" wrench, a homemade wrench, WD-40, 3 lb. sledge, and very little patinence.
