Today i went hunting and when i left the dirt road i was talking to my friend and i hit the pavement and never really made any turns. I somehow didn't notice it was still in 4 hi since i had parked in 4 high and didn't need to turn it on to get out. I drive with the steering wheel tilted all the way up and it blocks the light unless i lean forward. I didn't notice till i got home like 50 miles later ! i made a sharp turn and it scrubbed i was like what the hell !I cannot believe i didn't notice it scrubbing before that ! I was going like 75 most the way !

do you guys think i damaged anything ? is there anything i should inspect ? i checked it if turned on and of and seemed engaged and it seems ok .

it's an '05 is it still under warranty?? take it to ford if it is and tell them you were off roading and "something doesn't seem right" do not tell them you drove 50 miles on dry pavement with the truck in 4HI. if they find anything wrong, warranty will cover it. and don't let them fool you by telling you that off roading voids your warranty. this is not true. otherwise, why would they have a section called "off roading" in the trucks instruction / dealer manual? if your under 36,000 miles, your set to go.

 

You'll be fine. You would notice it long before you did enough to damage it.

is that true about the warentee though? if your truck messes up while off roading its covered?

 

You can drive at any speed in 4Hi as long as you don't engage it over 50mph. If you have factory tires and an open front differential, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

 

I always drive in 4wh in the snow... if the roads are slickk

you shouldent use 4x4 high over 45mph.. i dont care what ford says... you shouldent need to use it any faster than that..

 

Well, '01+ trucks have a live front axle, so the only thing different about actually engaging 4x4 to use at high speeds vs normal highway use is that the transfer case is putting out power. The CVs and front differential have always been turning, and at 45+ you're not going to make any shaft-binding turns. If it's been properly maintained, this should be no problem.

 

if something broke, u would have noticed. just make sure that the 4x4 still work. and dont go to ford and tell them you were offroading and something doesnt seem right. never tell a dealer you were offroading ur truck

 

never tell ford u offroad, offroading falls under 'neglect and abuse' and they may attempt to void ur warranty.
