A buddy of mine had some reservoir shocks that i think are bilsteins im not sure but i have a 92 ranger and am installing them tomorrow and when i compress them they are hard to compress which is good but i cna get it all the way down with some muscle. But it comes up really slowly is that good? They were just charged too. Thanks for any input.

 

ok so now me and my friend tried to put them on and the bottom won't fit. My friend says i need to hammer out the bolt and use the one it come with but it looks like the bolt won't come out. Any ideas?

 

Is your truck a 4x4 or 4x2? What truck did the shocks come from? and are you installing these on the rear, front, or both?

Also the guy says he is going to weld on a tab to hold it and that will fix my problem and im only installing on the front.

 

The response is normal that you saw.

Think of it this way: when the shocks are on the vehicle the main thing they do when extending is to damp the suspension dropping away from the vehicle by it's own weight, or the body being pulled up by a wheel at the opposite corner going down.

In both cases, the shock will be "feeling" the weight of the suspension on that side of the truck.

When you release it on just it's gas pressure, there's not enough force to make it move fast. It's doing exactly what it should and it's an indication of a good shock more or less. The only way to really tell is to see how it responds to a certain amount of force to verify it's valving -- but what you feel with it being pressurized and the slow movement when you release it sounds good.

 

yeah i actually found out they were only charged wiht air which isin't good so i had desolate charge them with nitrogen and they are building a bracket so i can put them on my truck. The reason for the bracket is so the bottom will be properly secured when they are put on. But other than that i can't wait thanks for the explanation n3elz. Appreciate it.
