Bought a new BESTTEST (whoops) starter form o'reileys on halloween day... installed it, and a week ago it was shorted out (we have had 3 ft drifts here in iowa and i have to hit about every one of them to get to work and school). large build up of ice/snow on solenoid shorted it im assuming. so anyways, ANOTHER new besttest starter, and truck is acting same as it did a week ago... WTF? anyone else have problems with these? any ideas or comments? battery is good, new solenoid, and even with a 50 amp chg starter just clicks when trying to engage. HELP!

 

bang on it with the handle of a screwdriver like in the old days. Sometimes the magnets stick in either the solenoid or the starter itself

 

What do your terminals look like? Both your battery terminals, and the terminals that bolt onto the solenoid. Just because a battery is "good", doesn't mean it's adequite enough for it. My stock battery would just click the starter, then the optima took it's place.

 

battery terminals are good, went to town yesterday and got a new connector for the posi cable to the starter, replacing that tomorrow if i can get around (sprained my ankle when I was drunk on friday) If this doesnt work, I'll look into the better battery. Already tried banging on the starter.... thanks for the help guys
